Had a good day :P

Best bit of today was when Snoweh came in to work to feed meh :P She went to some effort to put together a hamper of goodness.. OK it was a plastic box but the goodies were most welcome - thx hun :X :P

Sprogs across Bristol are starting their summer hols this week so my hours on site have nr doubled (in order to cash in :) ) The LAN was full all day which felt good. Word of mouth, advertising and our pricing campaign for summer are paying dividends. Managed to do 3 weeks worth of accounts inbetween little eejits asking me to "fix their mouse".

Snoweh's also getting closer on the job-finding front so fingers crossed there. More on that in her post - I know this cos she's typing it to my right - awww simultaneous LJ entries how cute :P

The only thing that's a drag atm is the lack of decent releases.. I'm waiting for something, anything of A quality to come out... must be 3 weeks since the last good release :/ Had to resort to getting films and other junk to keep the warez monster in my head fed :P

Blah enuff fer now - hmmz I think my attention span is dropping as I get older :/

It's a long time since I've updated.. haven't really felt like doing it till now.

Most of my time over the past couple of months has been spent on my business. Things are going according to plan i.e. slow but solid growth in a season that doesn't favour us. There's been various issues along the way, technical and otherwise, but no showstoppers. I'll stop boring you there ;P

Haven't found much time for being out and about. Long, loud, social hours at 'work' kinda take the energy out of me and I find myself looking forward to some peace and quiet when I get home. Not sure those living with me realise this and prolly think I'm turning into some kind of hermit :D Playing pc games, pool, having a drink or two, and chewing the cud with mates is my 9 to 5. Sure there's paperwork, elbowgrease and the bank manager but that tends to fit in neatly around the edges :P

[21:01] <Snoweh|Up> u never write anything good about me
[21:01] <Snoweh|Up> it's not fair

hmm I guess I should point out that Snoweh is presently cooking me an aromatic Rogan Josh with funky rice stuff :P Bless her little cotton socks.

Lots more to write but I'm aware of peoples attention span :P I'll save it for future posts. I would promise them more often but I'll prolly go off the idea by tomorrow :P

Time:2:47 am.
My business opens it's doors tomorrow :P

Got a few PC's still to sort.. well 6 of em :P We open at 10am so plenty of time to do that in the morning. Worked over 19 hours of Friday, as did my partner, but not as beat up as might be expected. Snoweh really helped us out today and stuck thru all my short temperedness ;P

I'm all excited now ;P

No updates cos I been busy. Setting up your own business in a week is taxing :P Everythings pretty much sorted now, in fact today was just me falling on my feet several times in succession ;P

It's amazin fun setting everything up. So far it's meaning 17 hour days and running round like a blue arsed fly - but I'm taking time to chill out each day if only for half an hour. Hopefully this means no burnout :P Won't be quite this hectic in a coupl eof weeks.

The whole thing of working for yourself is so great; I only fear the wrath Taxmen and Death now :P

It did occur to me that they'll prolly find a cure for the latter first :P

Ho hum.. no rest fer el wicked.. EzE

The LAN party is going well :) Lots of peeps and fun.. and pizza... mmmm :)

Jobwise the possibilty of getting all the gear for el cybercafe is increasing daily. That ought to keep me employed for at least another three months if it goes ahead. I have a tentative job offer for October time as well :) So in the employment stakes things are looking up.

Byes :)

Been along time since I've updated. I'm out of a job in 18 days unless something lands on my lap or I do something about it :P Ho hum. Lanarena was a good ride the past 18 months but I've got no problem with moving on.

I'm looking at running my own cybercafe now.. too soon to say whether everything will fall together. Setting a company up is quite involved esp on a short time span with no experiance...w00t :P I may actually have to get a 9-5 in the meantime.. bwahhah kiddin' :P I'll just rob banks.

I'm actually hosting a social LAN on Friday with a dozen or so ppl in attendance.. just a chance to share some stuff and get drunk playing computer games :)

Snoweh managed to fuck herself up at the weekend and muggins here was left to pick up the pieces - if she does that again she can cope by herself. The weekend cost her so much she was asking me fer bus fares when she started work this week. Wonderful. She's also being a pedantic cow about it all :P

Will update after this LAN

Time:5:24 am.
Mood:naughty yet nerdy :D.
Just spent two hours tweaking Snoweh's fuckass PC. Perhaps tweaking is misleading, as tweaking implies gaining performance above and beyond the average expected from your hardware/software. Snoweh's PC despite being a PIII-600 does in fact drag it's knuckles worse than a gorilla at a moonwalking contest. With a few BIOS, registry, component and services hacks that are by my book standard I can use the thing without it driving me into a fit of pique. For someone who purports to be a geek she wasn't very clued up about the systems components - tut tut :P

I should be 'obtaining' Jedi Kerniggit 2 today... can't wait to toss my lightsaber around... no seriously it's part of the game :P

In an odd twist of fate I'm now leader of the official national team for the game Ghost Recon. What larks ;P For you lay people Ghost Recon is one of those games with guns where you shoot people. It's a genre I'm known to be fond of, but this title left me luke warm. It's all PR bullshit, but I've been tasked by the publishers with making a team for taking on the rest of Europe... funnily enough this comes at the launch of an addon pack for the game - Desert Siege. Which I will also obtain tomorrow :P

Blergh 4 hours sleep then an all-day shift today... gah.

Going back to work to make sure our allnighter kicks of fine... should be fun so I'll stick there for a couple of hours. (back in at 10am anyhow). We got divx, tournies, golden joystick and the largest easter egg in the world.

O and I played "Robot Wars" the game... it's awful in that kinda addictive way. Was hoping for the chance to use a flamethrower on Craig Charles.. but no such luck. Blah.

Time:11:55 pm.
Mood: disappointed.
Hmm crappy day in many respects. Many jobby respects.

The MD phoned me up to tell me that our companies shutdown is accelerating. Although I'm not about to spam the date of closure it means I've got to start looking for a job.. now :/

Snoweh missed her AOL interview cos of some crappy taxi driver firm :/ (I'll let her rant about that) and furthermore her backup job fell through as well :/ Bugger.

But I've been playing some amazing Empire Earth :)

NB: (As I was editing this post, Sam piped up "We've been playing some amazing Empire Earth." This is of course a complete lie. I was playing amazingly. Sam was appaling :P But she enjoyed it nevertheless :P)

Got Warrior Kings yesterday. Spinkee looking RTS with a few twists. Recomended at least to play around with.

Been quite a mushy day :)

Just watching an amazing divX:)5 rip of "The Replacement Killer". Chow Yun Fat is the kiddeh - but what I can't get over is how the new divx compresses so well. Scenes with smoke and fast motion - previously the bane of standard encodings are remarkably true to the source DVD. Jon produced this one in-house; I'm hoping we can trade Anime rips of a similar quality for 0-day warez with an Isonews contact. Time will tell :P

Jedi Knight II went gold today, so I should have my hands on that in the next few days :P Looking forward to playing that one :)

Subject:New hobby :)
Time:1:07 am.
Mood: optimistic.
Decided I'll be getting myself involved in a new hobby. Airsoft.

Airsoft uses weapons that are identical in appearance to military issue gear. The one I'm getting is fairly typical - full auto 6mm weapon, muzzle velocity 300fps, 900rounds a minute. UK law sets a lower limit on what constitutes a firearm and basically the amount of energy the plastic projectile inparts on the the target just scrapes under that limit. More about Airsoft and what I hope to get from itCollapse )

Just replaced my PSU fan with a nice Coolermaster number.

The old 'un would often start up grating it's bearings at me doing it's best impression of a bandsaw. My solution was to jam a screwdriver into the fanblades - a short sharp shock often put it to rights :) Over time this fucked the poor thing until it barely passed air thru. The Coolermaster is designed to be a case fan but that's nothing brute force, wire strippers and masking tape can't cater for ;P

It's about time the case had a |33+ paint job too. Think I might go into town to have a look at some textured spraypaint :)

Here's my years old first sprayjob on 'Barry' my secondary system...

O yeh and I just bought myself an Audigy Gamer soundcard from Scan's Today Only page This page is a must visit cos there's frequently great bargains to be had amongst the not so great.

Does anyone have experience with Graphics tablets? I'd like recomendations as I'm thinking of getting one. Something entry level-ish from Wacom perhaps?

Mood: jubilant.
Had a great weekend. In retrospect it all seemed scarily 'normal'. The years we've been apart didn't seem to affect familiarity or having an easygoing time. (For those who can't be arsed to look at my last entry - I spent the w/e with mates from my uni days - from about 2 to 3 years ago.) Sam was a little quiet/uneasy at first in a rather awkward social situation for her but with the aid of alcohol she loosened up and enjoyed herself.
Chris, Tom and Gabs have been the closest of friends to me. Tom has always been around in Bristol.. and it's sheerly through joint apathy that we've spent this long without seeing each other. Gabs and Chris however moved away but are both thinking of returning to Bristol to work.. that'd be great

Incidently.. the Mexican was pretty nice too, especially the DIY fajitas.. I must explore Mexican food a bit more. We kinda had an idea for the next meet... a Medieval Banquet :P Of course none of us has the foggiest how we go about finding a castle and someone willing to roast a hog... but we're not the kind of people to be put off by practicalities :)

Wondering about the post title? Our favorite tipple used to be 'Badger' ale. I was dismayed to learn our old Badger drinking haunt 'The Pennyfarthing' pub no longer served it.. but astonishingly it's available in Sainsbury's... canned... freaky.

Anyhow the net result of the weekend is that we all have each others phone numbers and some real impetus into seeing each other more often. O and I'm 20 richer cos like a muppet I forget to give Gabs back the note he lent meh... doh :)

Subject:Choices :)
Time:8:24 pm.
Mood: bouncy.
A friend just dropped a line and offered me the opportunity to buy some hardware on the cheap as he needs cash pronto...

The Colt M4A1 cuts a mean profile...

Do you think I should snap his offer up? I'm a bit tight on cash atm, but then I've always wanted one of these beasties.

Another friend called me out the blue yesterday. I hadn't heard from Tom-T in about a year when he called to invite me up to his 25th at a Mexican restaurant :) Apparently my old soul mate Gabs will be arriving too.. our little trio had some legendary experiences together during our time at uni. So I'm really looking forward to Saturday - I wonder if it'll be like old times. Word is Gabs is looking to move back here...
Freakily, later that day an old flatmate of mine appeared at the door. Chris and I have met up sporadically since he went off to work near Farnborough. Lo and behold, he too is actively seeking a job around here.

A gathering of the clans then :)

O and since sam can't be arsed to do her journal tonight - it's up to me to tell you about her 12 hour shift on a production line tomorrow :D personally I give the job till her lunchbreak... if you feel different praps we can start a sweepstake :P On a serious note an interview for a tech support job (what she wants to do) looks likely so she's pretty bouncy too :)
